TANGO: The Dance of Relationship
on Valentines Weekend

A dynamic sculpture created by you and your partner, the tango requires deep trust, understanding, and presence, becoming the external expression of your internal essence. Come discover the beauty, grace, and passion of the tango and explore its secret teachings on relationship and clear communication.

Under the skilled guidance of Jaime Alvarez, Alexandra Alvarez and a team of accomplished dancers and dance instructor, you will develop and/or enhance your ability to communicate verbally and non-verbally as you experience the tango viewed not only as a dance but as a microcosm of relationship.

In this enjoyable and enlightening program you will learn:

  • The basics of Argentinean tango and dance vocabulary.
  • Harmonious execution of leader and follower roles.
  • Relationship dynamics while switching roles and rotating dance partners.
  • How to listen to and follow non-verbal cues such as body position and weight transfer.
  • Skills for interpersonal expression and problem solving communications.

Whether you're single or partnered, sailing smoothly along or in rough waters, this unique weekend will open your heart and your mind and bring alive your connection with life.

Thursday evening will include a lesson, a dance show with professional couples presenting various styles of dance, followed by a social dance to try out your skills on the dance floor. Come discover the beauty, grace, and passion of the tango as you explore its teachings on relationship and clear communications with your partners in Jaime’s program. Tango the Dance of Relationship is just the right program after the holidays.

Join Jaime & Alexandra Alvarez for an unforgettable evening. Be prepared for Thursday, the night begins with a tango lesson followed by a tango dance party, complete with a performance.

Admission: Free for participants in Jaime’s weekend program, $10 to Kripalu guest on February 10 and to students and friends of OPED/Dance World.

Notes: For program sessions, wear comfortable clothes that allow for a wide range of movement. Bring more dressy attire for the social dance if you wish. Recommended viewing The videos Tango and The Tango Lesson. 

Master Instructor’s /Dancers:
Jaime Alvarez Ed.D. & Alexandra Alvarez

Jaime Alvarez has studied dancing as a hobby all his life and he has trained with internationally acclaimed masters of tango. He teaches both group and private lessons. Dr. Alvarez has worked as a private therapist and consultant in human relations and focuses his skills on the relationships between people when they dance.

He has participated in tango congresses and workshops with internationally acclaimed masters of tango dancing. He has been organizing tango dancing in the New England area since 1995. Jaime has taught extra-mural courses of tango dancing in colleges in Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut. He has performed in South America, Florida, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, and received prizes, trophies & honorary mentions. Jaime & Alexandra’s renditions of Tango and their dances are passionate and vibrant, they embody the music’s message interpreted with skilful movements, artful figures in a sensual style.

Their teaching programs are professional: during the beginning of their instruction they teach basic dance vocabulary in an easy sequences of one hour lessons distributed in several levels set to fit participants, then the dancers are encouraged to practice while rotating in couples as they increase their skills.

Additional Invitation

As part of the retreat all the dancers are extended and invitation to a “Milonga” and are encouraged to participate in a follow up workshops and social dance at no extra cost. Dancers who come to the “Milonga Los Compadres” enjoy professional dance shows, gourmet buffet, and South American wines, while socializing and dancing in beautifully decorated spaces. The Alvarez hosts monthly milongas and teach tango dancing in W. Hartford CT.
